Customised Covid-19 alerts

Since my last post, the number of Victorian Covid-19 exposure sites (🗄️ Version archived on 2021-09-02) has climbed to over 1000. It isn’t healthy for me to park myself on that page and constantly refresh it, or to constantly watch Twitter for case updates and press conferences. I’ve built a couple more small tools to send me alerts when they’re relevant, so I don’t need to have those browser tabs of doom open all the time. (That doesn’t mean I don’t sometimes spend hours on Twitter anyway, but at least I know I can tear myself away without missing important alerts.) Building tools to tune the cacophony of information has also done a little to focus and calm my mind in this distressing period. ...

At the time of writing, there are over 800 entries on the Victorian government’s table of public Covid-19 exposure sites (🗄️ Version archived on 2021-08-16) . The associated map isn’t always up-to-date with the table, and even with the various sorting methods and the single-suburb filter, it can take a while to identify sites in the suburbs that you care about. ...
